Weekly Forecast: 01/07 - 01/13
Let me be the last to say it: Welcome to 2019!
I'm fairly certain everyone I know was ready for last year to finally come to an end. Even though we’re already a week in I feel like I’m still tying up some loose ends to the year, but it does feel nice to move on. And my favorite card of the tarot is our card of the year, so that is a bonus! The Hanged Man and I go way back. After the frantic pace of 2018 it will be nice to have a year to pause, shift, and reexamine perspectives for fresh ideas and new wisdom.
We also had a great New Moon this past weekend and it was inspiriting to connect with it through a simple reading that, honestly, I just created on the fly. I called it my 3 R’s Spread (because I wasn’t feeling too clever). It is a pretty straightforward three card spread to do under a new moon: 1. Release, 2. Realign, 3. Rejoice. Briefly, you’re looking at what you need to let go of with this new moon, where in your life needs some attention or course correction, and what you need to be celebrating about yourself. I realize it is nothing groundbreaking, but give it a try and let me know what you think.
I am also a fan of Ethony's lunar-inspired spreads, and her New Moon in Capricorn spread is an especially good one. If you haven't, you should check it out. (In all honesty I'm just a fan of hers in general and can't wait to hang out with her again at Reader's Studio this year.)
Unfortunately the weekend is winding down, as it tends to do, so let’s take a look at the week coming up and what important energies we need to look out for. (The Starman Tarot is up this week and there is so much going on I thought I would make the images a little larger than normal so they're easier to examine.)
Theme: Queen of Cups
Let’s keep this lady in the back of our minds this week. She draws on her experience to inform her emotional intelligence and maturity. She isn’t afraid of her own depths. She invites us not only to dream, but to dream big and dream with confidence. All around her is magic being born from the mundane, and this will be a good week to sit with her and experience the miraculous first hand. She stands, too, as a warning not to get swept up by our emotions this week. Feel the feels, but don’t let them take the driver’s seat. We are in control. And as we'll soon see, keeping her as our touchstone this week will serve us well.
Monday: 10 of Swords
Monday could be the day the Queen was warning us about, as a matter of fact. The 10 of Swords is rarely a pleasant card to have come up. Here we see a sudden raining down of swords impaling one figure and being repelled by the other. An ending of some sort is happening today, it could be a painful one. Again, the key is to remain in control. And here it is in accepting responsibility for what’s going on that will serve us best. It may not be as dramatic as being impaled by a few swords (let’s hope!), but pay attention to any cycles that seem to be ending today. We can either allow the cycle to begin again, or step out of our old patterns—the choice is ours.
Tuesday: King of Pentacles
We’ve made a commitment to the path we are on now, be it the start of a new cycle or the beginning of something entirely new. Draw on the experience and today will be a great day to accomplish what we’ve set out to do. Just don’t over do it. Additionally, this King might be a mentor we’re being urged to seek out, or we could be asked to be the mentor ourselves.
Wednesday: The Emperor
Noticing a pattern yet? Yet another powerful figure, yet another card telling us to take charge and take responsibility for ourselves. I think some of us might be in for a challenging week. Refer back to the Queen of Cups to help dull any edges you come against this week, and remember that this is your domain. You may also want to reach out to your father.
Thursday: 4 of Cups
Another four (the Emperor is card 4 in the major arcana), another card referring to structure. This time we are back in our emotional realm and I am reminded of what my mother always told me growing up, “Life is what you make it.” If it is indeed going to be a challenging week much of this can be mitigated by our point of view, our perception of what is going on, and how we are reacting to it: How we are structuring our emotions. We can either get swept away, or we can use the momentum to our advantage and ride the wave forward.
Friday: 2 of Pentacles
We’re at the end of the week and it appears as though we chose to ride the wave. We will be striking a balance, thank [insert deity]. Not sure if this guy is gliding along on top of rough waters, or cutting through clouds or a glacier, but there is a definite sense of moving forward while he is maintaining the balance of his resources. So let us be reminded to do the same: the week was long, but let us not dwell or take for granted the equilibrium we find today.
Saturday: 4 of Swords
We’re presented with more structuring with yet another four. Today we’re being called to structure our minds. Take pause. Rest. Probably much needed at this point! It will be a great day to go within. Don’t make any crazy plans today.
Sunday: Ace of Wands
Today you can make crazy plans. We began the week with the ending of a cycle and are ending the week with the start of a new cycle. Perhaps we are finally closing the book on 2018, any carry over finally being put to rest and put behind us. Personally, I believe this will be the case in my life. Let’s be ready to light the world on fire Monday, because Sunday’s Ace of Wands is when we strike the match.
If you’d like your own personalized reading please don't hesitate to reach out! Each of us offer something a little different, so be sure to look at each of our listings. Whitney, Jennifer, or I (Michael) would be happy to sit down with you in person if you’re local, or through e-mail if you are not. (Still working on a suitable way for video readings. Reach out if you have suggestions!)
The deck we used this week, as I previously mentioned, is The Starman Tarot by David and Esther De Angelis. David De Angelis worked on many projects as a visual artist with David Bowie spanning decades and this tarot deck is a creation that came about because of that collaboration.
Did I miss something that is standing out to you in the cards? Have any other questions or comments? Leave a response below! We love to talk tarot.
Have a wonderful week, and be sure to check back next Sunday.
